Calathea is a genus of plants belonging to the family Marantaceae. There are several dozen species in this genus. Native to the tropical Americas, many of the species are popular as pot plants due to their decorative leaves and, in some species, colourful inflorescences. They are commonly called Calathea's or (like their relatives) prayer plants.
Care
Your Calathea is well suited to those low light areas in your home many other house plants dislike. Indeed, it’s happy almost anywhere but not in direct sunlight. Can be used in sheltered outdoor gardens, again out of direct sun.
Water regularly but allow the plant to dry out slightly between waterings and ensure that the pot drains thoroughly after watering. Adding fertiliser to the weekly watering will keep it flourishing.
